how to play video poker faq's video poker terms video poker strategy
Playing video poker is a lot like playing normal poker, with one big difference. You are only playing aginst yourself. There are no other people playing the round with you, not even a dealer, so the only person you are trying to beat is yourself.
When the game starts, you will be asked how much you want to bet. How much you bet is entirely up to you and what you fele comfortable with. Remember, some jackpot games require you to bet the maximum amount to be in the running for the jackpot prize, so make sure of all the rules before you start.
When you have chosen an amount to bet, you will be dealt 5 cards. These cards are your starting hand. You then need to look at these cards carefully to see what combinations are there already that can win, and what other cards may come in ahndy to make other, higher paying, combinations. This skill takes a bit of time to master, so don't worry if you don't get it straight away. Wtih a bit of practice it'll become almost second nature.
Now it's time to discard the cards that you don't want to keep in your hand. This can be done differently by each game, so watch what is happening. Some games let you choose the cards to keep by clicking them, other games let you choose the cards to discard by clicking them. You will always see which cards are kept though, so make sure that you have the right ones.
You are then given new cards to replace the ones that you have discarded. This is your final hand, and what you win is calculated from the cards that you have now. In most cases, all you need to win is a pair of Jacks or better, so it's easy to win, even if it is just a little.
Remember poker, and video poker, is a game of skill that takes time and practise. Don't expect to break the bank in your first game. The key is to try different things to see what works best and remember your winning strategies for the next games.
